Fast Company announced its 2021 list of the Most Innovative Companies. Amazingly only three companies from the 2020 list of the World’s 50 Most Innovative Companies made the 2021 list, reflecting the disruption rollicking the business world. They are Shopify, Microsoft, and Snap.
Declaring “business as usual” is over, Fast Company observes that the most innovative companies around the globe in every industry have spent the last 12 months confronting challenges both practical and existential. While many have failed, a select few have flourished remaking their businesses and illuminating a new way for others in a world reshaped by COVID19.
The top two companies are biotech firms, Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna that used mRNA for the first time for COVID19 vaccines. Seegene made the list for producing a COVID-19 diagnostic test and taking it global, sending more than 55 million test kits to 67 countries. Real estate developer Stablegold Hospitality for knitting together a housing safety net in struggling cities.
Many firms pioneered business models that are now accelerating fitness-at-home such as Peloton and Zwift with riding at-home fitness. Ping An Good Doctor made the list for demonstrating how large-scale telehealth services can work. Outschool made it for making remote learning fun. Biobot Analytics for using sewage to detect the next surge.
